Rock band to talk finances with Nashville students

| Sep 15, 2015

California-based rock group GOODING will stop in Nashville next week to promote financial literacy among students.

It seems like an unusual combination — rock ‘n’ roll and financial literacy — said lead singer Gooding. But empowering youth to make smart financial decisions is a passion, he said.

The band has toured high schools in North America for at least two years, teaching students about financial literacy.

The band will touch on financial concepts like the dangers of predatory lending, as well as life lessons such as the importance of self-reliance, the impact of education and the pitfalls of overnight success.

“I graduated high school learning more geometry than learning how to balance a checkbook. I didn’t know what a credit check was,” Gooding said.

Gooding said he wants students to work hard and work smart.

“I don’t want them to believe that fame or overnight success will fix their problems. That’s what we see on television, that money can solve any problem. It’s really going slow and steady that will protect you,” he said. “I’m saying whatever your passion is, you have to learn about it as much as you can as you go along,” he said.

The Credit Union of America, U.S. Bank, various advisers from Raymond James Financial, Inc. and charity Funding the Future help make GOODING’s high school tour possible.

Getting a teenager to listen to financial advice or think financial planning is a challenge. A big challenge, but one that musician Gooding has decided to take on.

Gooding believes that the right delivery model is key. As a leader of the band “Gooding,” the model is rock and roll.

“When I was coming up I didn’t want to listen to parents and teachers, but rock and roll was the thing. I have the microphone, and I better do something with it,” he said.

Gooding, wich is currently on tour throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, will bring their act Harvey County. They will perform at 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at Newton High School, 9 a.m. Sept. 9 at Halstead at 2 p.m. Burrton High School.

Like a true Beverly Hills socialite, Lisa Vanderpump dresses to the nines, piles on the jewels, and sports flawless hair, but while her fashions rotate, there is one accessory that the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star is rarely seen without, her tuxedo-bearing pooch, Giggy. When the three-pound dog, who has his own website, publicist, and a better wardrobe than most A-list stars in Hollywood, developed alopecia, Vanderpump began designing outfits to protect the fur of the pocket sized pup. This led to the creation of her own collection of pampered dog accessories, Vanderpump Pets.

We Chat With Lisa Vanderpump About Her Glamorous Dog Clothing Line

The “Vanderpump Rules” and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star combines fashion and affordability in her new collection, which suits any pup with a great sense of style.

If you’ve tuned into television shows like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or Vanderpump Rules, you might recognize reality TV star and lifestyle expert Lisa Vanderpump, along with her adorable pup, Giggy. When someone that famous brings much-needed attention to worthy animal causes, we just can’t help but take notice.

In an effort to involve herself significantly with pet charities, Lisa searched for someone who was just as passionate about animal welfare as she is. She teamed up with a similarly canine-obsessed management consultant John Sessa, and the pair started working on a line of pet products, many of which have been inspired by the stunning Golden Collar Award that the Hollywood Reporter bestowed upon Giggy in 2012.
