‘Housewives’ star brings cause — and dog — to Capitol

Lisa Vanderpump, client of top entertainment PR firm Lobeline Communications addressed Congress yesterday regarding the Yulin Dog Meat Festival:

“Lisa Vanderpump says reality TV isn’t just about drama-filled boozy battles and table-flipping antics — it can, in fact, help bring a cause to Congress.

The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star traded 90210 for the Capitol on Wednesday for a briefing to raise awareness about the global dog meat trade and China’s annual Yulin Dog Meat Festival, in which thousands of dogs are killed a year.”

The 55-year-old, who has owned 26 restaurants (which currently includes Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills and SUR in West Hollywood) with her husband, Ken Todd, admits she has “adopted the American way of dining,” but old habits die hard. “Americans are just rather loud,” she says. “And please, I’m not trying to patronize—but it’s considered kind of quite rude to be talking so other people can’t hear in a restaurant.”

This wildly entertaining stage adaptation adheres (somewhat) to the narrative of the film, telling the story of shopaholic-turned-scoutmaster Phyllis Nefler, played with razor sharp ditz overload by Marla Mindelle. She goes toe-to-toe (or Louboutin-to-combat boot, as the case may be) with her nemesis Velda Plendor for status within the shockingly competitive ranks of the Wilderness Girls organization.
