1992’s A League of Their Own was inspired by the true story of the first female professional baseball league and became a movie classic. Set during World War II, A League of Their Own starred then-heavy hitters Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Rosie O’Donnell and Madonna as the trailblazing female baseball players, and gave audiences an iconic Tom Hanks role. The Unauthorized Musical Parody (of) Series at Rockwell Table & Stage is full of trailblazers, so it seemed a natural fit that they would take on another film favorite for their next musical. Unfortunately, UMPO: A League of Their Own isn’t quite a home run like some of their past productions… More like a triple.

news.com.au – Drag superstar and A Star Is Born scene-stealer Willam reveals all

Some of the biggest laughs in last year’s smash hit Lady Gaga vehicle A Star Is Born came courtesy of a pair of bona fide drag superstars.

RuPaul’s Drag Race alumni Willam and Shangela played queens at the drag club Gaga’s character Ally performed at early in the film, with Willam’s character Emerald in particular stealing the show as she flirted up a storm with visiting rock god Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper).

The duo’s scene-stealing appearance in an Oscar-nominated movie marked a big step into the mainstream for drag. It also marked a welcome career break for Willam, who has more than paid her Hollywood dues, appearing in dozens of TV shows and movies since the early noughties.

Growing up, she wasn’t much into dolls, so it’s a bit ironic that right now Annabelle is a big part of Natalia Safran’s family.

“You can see what dolls can do when not watching them properly so I was right to like bears better,” Safran said with a smile.

She spends most of her time lately with her daughter Lou Lou, and little 11-year-old Lily, the foster child from Columbia her family is hosting this summer.

“Every child deserves a lovely family and a childhood isn’t complete without a proper home,” Safran said.

So she, along with her husband and their daughter, is a family of four for five weeks this summer. Or should we say, they are a family of five so long as Annabelle’s in the house.

This past weekend (July 26 – 28) was the grand opening of UMPO (Unauthorized Musical Parody Of) A League Of Their Own. (Buy tickets here) For about two hours, the cast sings and acts their way through the 1992 beloved movie. Of course, in true UMPO fashion, the story is spun a little differently and is told through these particular creators’ eyes.

This show runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and Sundays at noon, until September 1st. And again, every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm and Sundays at noon, September 6th to September 29th.
