LEFAIR MAGAZINE: Review of the UMPO Clueless at Rockwell Table & Stage

Lefair Magazine | May 30, 2018

It’s an eclectic crowd inside Rockwell LA— Mohawks, bangs, abundant cleavage, leopard prints, and velvet robes— Clueless fans come in all shapes and sizes and tonight they have gathered to watch Late Pazakis’ The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Clueless. For anyone unfamiliar with the 1995 blockbuster, Clueless tells the story of Cher Horowitz, a well-intentioned but superficial girl — who is attractive, popular and extremely wealthy. A few months shy of her sixteenth birthday, Cher and her best friend, Dionne rule the high school social scene. These girls have it all and breeze through life oblivious to the big picture problems of the world. When new girl, Tai, arrives at the school, Cher and Dionne take it upon themselves to makeover their new friend, transforming her from bland to full-blown “Betty.” Along the way, Cher plays matchmaker, using her charm and smarts to help her friends and teachers find love — and to improve not only her grades, but also the world around her. With the film’s enormous cult following, it’s no surprise there is such a large draw to the unauthorized musical parody, especially when original Clueless film cast members Nicole Bilderback (“Summer”) and Julie Brown (“Ms. Stoeger”) are in the audience.

LA EXCITES: Rockwell’s “Clueless” Is a Ridiculously Funny Homage to the Original

Imaan Jalali | May 13, 2018

The following review is based on the May 11th performance.

Unlike some tentpole film franchises, there are no depreciating returns with Rockwell Table & Stage’s UMPO series, which remains just as gut-bustingly funny with its 12th installment, “The Unauthorized Musical Parody of Clueless, which is scheduled to run through September 1st in Los Feliz.

The fabulous farce, based on Amy Heckerling’s 1995 high school classic starring Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, the late Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, and others, is once again the brainchild of Artistic Director, Executive Producer, creator, and writer Kate Pazakis. Rockwell’s resident genius has been on an unprecedented roll for the past few years, highlighted by her talent to reimagine pop-culture phenomena by incorporating not only an appropriately modern bent, but extra helpings of humor, to go along with dynamic dancing, and the singing of hits spanning the last four decades.

THRIVE GLOBAL: Interview with Bubbleworks’ Founder and CEO Adam Williams

Yitzi Weiner | April 27, 2018

I had the pleasure to interview Adam Williams, Founder and CEO of MagicSnow and the new startup Bubbleworks.

Thank you so much for doing this with us! What is your “backstory”?

I began MagicSnow (the parent company of Bubbleworks), in 2002 after struggling to launch a career as a professional magician. I ended up using the illusions and technology that I learned in magic to build a company that creates large scale public illusions and spectacle. Our company creates snow and winter themed effects and illusions for the world’s best known entertainment companies and brands. We’re now using that experience to spinoff into the area of bubble effects and large scale bubble experiences for the live entertainment industries. Today our company develops projects that can be seen in shows, theme parks, and entertainment venues all over the world.

Can you share the funniest or most interesting story that happened to you since you began leading your company?

I think the most interesting thing about our company is that it was created out of failure. It was my dream to become a professional magician, but that dream was not to be. In my early 20’s, I was a regular performer at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. While I loved that experience, I was trying to fit into a mold of what I thought success looked like instead of creating it for myself. It was like trying to fit into a shoe that’s a size too small. So I was forced to pivot and ended up creating something far better than I could have ever done if I had tried to stick to my original path. The business I created has been tailored around my own interests and strengths. In a lot of ways, I’m still doing a lot of what I dreamed of but it’s just on a larger scale and wrapped in a different package.
